AI music labels and fair royalties.

How Vynl labels AI music, and how your listening is meant to decide who gets paid.

How AI-generated and AI-assisted music is labeled.

Every track carries one of two labels. Creators choose it when they release, and can add a few words to explain.

AI-assisted

A creator and AI tools worked together.

The creator leads the work and uses AI for part of it, for instance a melody idea, a stem or a mix. They can describe how.

AI-generated

Produced mostly or entirely by an AI system.

These tracks are welcome on Vynl. They are simply never passed off as something else.

Declared by the creator

The label comes from the creator of the track, at the moment they release it.

Kept as a history

A new declaration never overwrites the old one. Every version stays on record.

Fair royalties for AI music: your listening decides who gets paid.

Vynl is built around user-centric royalties: the artists you play are the ones your subscription supports.

Pooled model

One big pot

Many services put every subscription into a single pool and split it by total streams. The music you actually play can end up funding what you never do.

User-centric, Vynl

Your money follows your ears

Your subscription is shared among the artists you played, in proportion to how much you played each of them.

You

One listener, three artists

Your subscription is shared out by what you actually play.

  • Most playedThe artist you keep coming back to gets the biggest share.
  • SometimesThe ones you play now and then get a smaller share, in proportion.
  • OnceAn artist you tried a single time still counts.

Example only. Real shares depend entirely on your own listening.

Where things stand. Royalty payouts are not live during the beta. The calculation and reporting are still being built, and this page will explain exactly how it works. Follow the progress on the roadmap.
